Anion Exchange Membrane Pretreatment

The membranes are supplied in a dry state but may contain trace amounts of residual water, additives, or solvents. To remove these residues, soak the membrane in deionized water. If additional cleaning is required, rinse the membrane with deionized water or an application-specific solution, depending on your process requirements.

Depending on the application and cell design, the membrane can be assembled either dry, without pre-treatment, or wet after pre-treatment.

For Wet Assembly:

1. Place the membrane sample between stable mesh or spacers to prevent curling.
2. Immerse the membrane in a NaCl solution, such as 0.5 M NaCl at 25°C, for 72 hours.
3. Replace the NaCl solution several times during the soaking period.
4. Keep the membrane continuously wet. Do not allow it to dry, as drying and subsequent shrinkage may cause microcracks to form.
5. The membrane may swell or shrink depending on its water and electrolyte content.

Alternatively, the membrane can be pre-soaked directly in the reaction solution intended for the specific application.
